Knife-point robber strikes eight times in 24 hours – jailed for four years
A man who terrorised Leicester with eight knife-point robberies in just one day has been locked up for four years.
Multiple robberies in one frantic night
Between the evening of Thursday 12 October and the early hours of Friday 13 October last year, 24-year-old Seye Djli targeted victims across Leicester city. Armed with a knife, Djli threatened several people and made off with multiple mobile phones.
Victims fought back by tracking their stolen phones, leading police straight to Djli at Bede Park. A search found him carrying five mobile phones, a bank card, and the weapon used in the crimes.
Police swoop yields more stolen goods
Following the initial arrest, officers conducted a Section 18 search at Djli’s home in cambridge/" title="Cambridge" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Cambridge Street, Leicester. They uncovered two additional stolen phones, linking him further to the robbery spree.
The incidents spanned across Jarrom Street, Mill Lane Bridge, Bede Park, Briton Street, Bath Lane, Newarke Street, Mill Stone Lane, and Town Hall Square.
Swift police work and CCTV capture the culprit
Thanks to quick action from victims and police, Djli was arrested within 24 hours. He was later identified by victims during an ID parade, with CCTV footage sealing the case against him.
Guilty plea and sentencing
In November, Djli pleaded guilty to six counts of robbery, two counts of attempted robbery, and two counts of possession of a bladed weapon. On Friday 12 July, Leicester Crown Court sentenced him to four years behind bars.
PC Austin Bruce, lead investigator, said: “These incidents were terrifying for the victims, many of whom were alone during the early hours. Djli threatened them with a knife and stole property in six of the eight robberies.
“Thanks to dedicated resources and CCTV operators, we tracked Djli down quickly. We are pleased he has admitted his guilt to all offences.
“We hope this outcome reassures victims and the wider community. Cases like this reinforce our commitment to tackling those who cause harm in our neighbourhoods.”
