Nick Knowles’ Dance Dreams Hinge on Bicep Injury
DIY SOS star Nick Knowles shocked fans with a surprise Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two appearance last night (September 23) – sporting a sling after a nasty bicep injury. The 62-year-old revealed his Strictly fate would be decided “today,” sparking worry about whether he can keep dancing.
Injury Strikes After Jubilant Jive
Just days after a lively jive to Starship’s We Built This City on Saturday (September 21), Knowles hurt his arm hard while changing a tyre. The accident happened on Sunday (September 22) en route to a family birthday bash.
“I went to get my 10-year-old son and bring him back to the party, but we broke down on the motorway with a flat tyre,” Nick explained on Instagram. “It was raining, and there were big lorries passing by, so I tried to change the tyre quickly. As I took the tyre off, I basically damaged my bicep and hurt my arm.”
Hopeful for a Saturday Comeback
Despite the injury, Nick stays upbeat. Co-host Janette Manrara admitted on It Takes Two that his return was uncertain: “At this stage, we don’t really know if you’re going to be able to dance on Saturday.” Nick fired back, “I’ll find out more tomorrow, but I’m fully expecting to go into training. I’m really hopeful that I’ll be dancing on Saturday.”
His partner Luba Mushtuk sounded confident. The duo are set to perform an American Smooth to Blur’s Parklife, which includes lifts — tricky with a bicep injury. Luba said, “We still have a perfect position on our right arm. We are going to do perfect footwork in the foxtrot. We might even do the lift on that arm… I will just work around it. I will make it work.”
She joked about adding sparkle to Nick’s sling, while he quipped, “Luckily I’m very big, and Luba is very light, so one-arm lifts are possible.”
Judges and Fans Rally Behind Knowles
Judge Anton Du Beke praised Nick’s weekend jive as “uplifting,” saying it left him feeling “elated.” The performance earned Nick 18 points from the judges. Fellow pro Carlos Gu even surprised Nick with a birthday cake during the live show.
All eyes will be glued to BBC One this Saturday, September 28 at 6:15pm to see if Nick Knowles can conquer the pain and hit the Strictly dance floor once more.
