Joshua was urgently transported to Birmingham Children’s Hospital in a serious condition where he later succumbed to his injuries. Detective Inspector Heidi Twynham expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss, stating, “Losing a child is devastating, and our condolences go out to the family. We are currently providing support and urge the public to exercise caution around water bodies, which can be unpredictably dangerous.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service detailed their response, including the dispatch of three ambulances, two paramedic officers, and various specialized teams to the incident site. “Upon arrival, we treated two patients who had already been pulled from the water,” a spokesperson explained.

This tragedy has prompted reminders about the hazards of rivers, particularly for children and those who are not strong swimmers. Local authorities and emergency services are urging everyone to be cautious around waterways, which can have fast-moving currents and unexpectedly deep sections.

Community and emergency responders have been praised for their rapid and coordinated response, though the outcome remains a somber reminder of nature’s potential peril.

The community of Maypole and surrounding areas have been left in mourning as they come to terms with the loss of such a young life in such tragic circumstances.
