Blackburn Man Jailed for Sex Assault and Phone Theft After Bolton Night Out Attack
A Blackburn man has been handed a hefty nine-year sentence for sexually assaulting a young woman and stealing her mobile phone in Bolton. Tashkin Ali, 22, was sentenced on Friday, 30 August 2024, receiving six years behind bars and an additional three years on licence. He’s also been slapped on the sex offenders register for life and branded a dangerous offender.
Chilling Attack After First Night Out
The court heard how Ali targeted his victim—a then 18-year-old woman enjoying her first night at a club in Bolton town centre back on 29 February 2020. Feeling unwell, the victim stepped outside to the smoking area, where Ali offered to call her a taxi. But instead, he dragged her to a dark car park nearby and assaulted her.
A vigilant manager from a nearby venue spotted the suspicious scene and stepped in. Ali became aggressive but bolted after insisting the victim was his girlfriend. The woman’s Huawei mobile was also stolen during the ordeal.
Quick Acting Witnesses and Police Nab Culprit
- Witnesses provided vital information that helped police identify and arrest Ali.
- The stolen phone was recovered from his home.
- Detective Sergeant Helen Hitchen from Bolton CID praised the victim’s bravery and the intervention of staff members.
“Women should be able to go on a night out freely, without fear that something may happen to them,” said DS Hitchen.
Police Urge Victims to Speak Out
Authorities stressed their commitment to hunting down predators and protecting vulnerable people in Bolton’s nightlife. They urged anyone who has suffered sexual violence or harassment to come forward, promising all reports will be taken seriously and victims supported by trained officers.
DS Hitchen added, “We are here to listen, believe, and support victims every step of the way.”
