Market Street Locked Down After Police Incident Near Tram Stop
A busy stretch of Market Street in Manchester city centre was sealed off tonight after a major police incident near the Market Street tram stop sparked chaos.
Emergency Services Swarm Scene
Paramedics and police rushed to the scene, attending to a stationary tram. Eyewitnesses reported a heavy emergency presence, including an ambulance, a paramedic car, and several police vehicles. One end of Market Street near Piccadilly Gardens was taped off, blocking all pedestrian access.
“The ambulance left shortly after, followed by the tram,” said a local onlooker, “but the cordon stayed up, keeping people out of the area.”
Tram Services Disrupted on Ashton Line
Metrolink confirmed that tram services between Piccadilly and Victoria stations were suspended due to the incident. Ashton line trams will only run between Ashton and Piccadilly Station until further notice.
The Metrolink website warned passengers: “No services are currently operating between Piccadilly Station and Victoria Station. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Police Tight-Lipped as Investigation Continues
Greater Manchester Police have been contacted but have yet to release details on the nature of the incident. The cordon and police presence are expected to remain as investigations unfold.
