‘Priceless’ World War One monument stolen from Crystal Palace Park

A bronze World War One monument, the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve (RNVR) Trophy, has been stolen from Crystal Palace Park, where it has stood for 93 years. The theft is believed to have occurred between August 19 and August 24, according to Bromley Police.

The monument, installed in 1931, was erected to honour the service of RNVR Officers who served during World War One. It is considered of immense historical value, commemorating the 125,000 officers who trained at the Crystal Palace Depot during the war.

In a statement, Bromley Police said: “This monument holds deep historical significance and is considered priceless. Help us preserve this vital piece of history for the families of the RNVR Officers.

The police are urging anyone with information regarding the theft to contact them on 101 or report online, quoting CAD 3098/03SEP24.

Efforts to recover the monument and return it to its rightful place in Crystal Palace Park are ongoing. The community has been asked to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could assist in the investigation.
