Gosport Man Jailed for Drugs and Firearm Crimes
Aiden Hopkins, 30, from Gosport, has been locked up for four years after being caught with Class A drugs and an illegal firearm in Hampshire.
Stopped on A34: Drugs Found in Sunglasses Holder
Hopkins was busted when police stopped his Skoda Rapid on the A34 heading towards Winchester around 9:30pm on June 13. Officers found suspected Class A drugs hidden in his car’s sunglasses holder and near the handbrake during a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act. His phone was also seized for further investigation.
Home Raid Uncovers More Drugs and Shotgun
A follow-up search at Hopkins’ home on Howe Road, Gosport, uncovered additional Class A drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a dismantled 12-gauge shotgun stashed in a wardrobe. Phone analysis linked him directly to drug dealing.
Guilty Plea Lands Four-Year Prison Sentence
Hopkins pleaded guilty to charges including conspiracy to supply cocaine, possession of heroin with intent to supply, and possession of a firearm without a certificate. He was sentenced at Southampton Crown Court on August 27.
“Tackling drug supply is a priority as it’s often tied to serious violence and crime,” said Detective Sergeant Lisa Robins. “This scourge ruins communities and makes people’s lives miserable.”
She added: “Thanks to proactive officers stopping Hopkins’ vehicle, we seized dangerous drugs and a weapon. This investigation has rightly sent him to prison.”
Police urge residents to report any suspected drug activity in their areas, stressing every tip helps disrupt criminal networks.
Hopkins will now serve his sentence, a stark reminder of the persistent issue of drug trafficking and illegal firearms in the region.
