Eastern Road Shuts This Weekend for Hospital MRI Upgrades
Heads up! Eastern Road will be closed this weekend, 8th and 9th October, right by the 3Ts Redevelopment site at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. Traffic will be rerouted along St George’s Road, just south of the hospital. Don’t worry — all hospital entrances and buildings remain fully accessible as usual.
Massive MRI Machines Getting Lifted In
The closure is to allow two brand-new MRI scanners to be craned into the main Imaging Department on level 4 of the new hospital building. Ready to open spring 2023, the upgraded department will boast the latest equipment in a spacious, purpose-built environment.
Stunning Views and Space Make Waiting Bearable
The main outpatient waiting room is located at the front of the building, offering spectacular sea views and a large terrace for patients to relax. One imaging team member said, “People who have used the service in Barry Building won’t believe this is part of the same hospital. It’s so different and there’s so much more space.”
Fracture Clinic on Same Floor for Easy Access
Also on level 4 is the Fracture Clinic. Since many fracture patients require imaging, having these services side-by-side makes appointments smoother for patients and staff alike. Simplifying patient journeys is a top priority for the new building’s design.
