Sair Khan, best known for her role as Alya Nazir on Coronation Street, has revealed her much-anticipated return to the iconic cobbles following the birth of her first child. The 36-year-old actress shared the exciting news on her Instagram Story, posting a picture of her script as she prepares to step back into her character for the first time since welcoming her baby boy in April.
Sair captioned the post, “I am Backstreet,” confirming her comeback after her maternity leave. Her character, Alya, left Weatherfield to pursue a job opportunity in Dublin, leaving fans curious about her future, especially after getting close to her boss, Adam Barlow (played by Sam Robertson).
The actress and her partner, Nathan Chilton, welcomed their son after a 22-hour labour, which Sair described as an “absolute rollercoaster.” In a candid Instagram post shared in May, she expressed her joy and the challenges of new motherhood, writing: “He’s here! … The new parent zombie look is definitely a thing, isn’t it?”
Reflecting on her birth experience, Sair revealed it didn’t go quite as planned, saying, “We didn’t quite get the birth I’d hoped for but that’s okay (two birth pools, no water birth).” Despite the unpredictability of the experience, she shared her gratitude for her son’s health and her strong support system, including Nathan and close friends.
Since her son’s arrival, Sair has been navigating the early stages of parenthood, balancing sleepless nights, breastfeeding, and recovery. She humorously remarked on the experience, saying: “Anyone else ever felt like there’s a DJ beat coming from your breast pump at 3am or is that what delirium is?!
Sair first announced her pregnancy in December and has since kept her fans updated on her journey into motherhood. Now, with her return to Coronation Street on the horizon, fans are eager to see what’s next for Alya Nazir as she steps back into Weatherfield life.
