The BBC has confirmed the return of the much-loved children’s series Balamory, almost two decades after it was last aired. Set in the colorful fictional town with iconic multicolored houses, the show, which first aired from 2002 to 2005, captured the hearts of millions with its vibrant characters and educational content.
The show follows the adventures of familiar characters like Miss Hoolie, PC Plum, Josie Jump, Edie McCredie, and Archie the Inventor, and is set to return to CBeebies in 2024. The revival will feature two new series, each comprising ten 14-minute episodes. Fans can expect a mix of old and new faces as the BBC aims to attract a new generation of viewers while also giving parents a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
Kate Morton, Head of Commissioning 0-6 for BBC Children’s and Education, said: “A whole new generation will discover and enjoy Balamory as we bring families together with this new update for CBeebies. It will be a real treat for parents who grew up with the show to now introduce their little ones to the brightly colored world, getting to know a host of old and new characters together.
The original Balamory was a significant success, drawing in over two million weekly viewers during its peak and even earning a BAFTA award for its contribution to children’s programming. The return of the show is expected to rekindle fond memories for parents while providing fresh, engaging content for young viewers.
Julie Wilson Nimmo, who famously played Miss Hoolie in the original series, expressed her excitement about the show’s return, calling it “the craziest and best news ever.
While it remains unclear whether all the original cast members will return, the BBC hopes to blend nostalgic favorites with new talent, bringing Balamory to life once again for a new audience.
