A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and assault of an 87-year-old man in West Yorkshire, police reported today. The arrest, made this morning in Royton, marks the second apprehension in the ongoing investigation.
The incident, which occurred on September 15, involved the elderly victim being forcibly taken from the Lee Street area of Oldham at approximately 9pm According to reports, the man was dragged into a black car, blindfolded, and subjected to demands for money and personal belongings. He was subsequently attacked and abandoned in the Rishworth area of West Yorkshire, where he sought help by knocking on a door around 10.40pm.
This latest arrest follows the initial apprehension of a 39-year-old man on September 19, who has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Detective Inspector Emma Hulston from the Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team stated, “We have arrested two men in connection with this shocking incident and our investigation team is making good progress in gathering evidence to establish the full circumstances.
DI Hulston assured the public that, while alarming, this appears to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community. She emphasized that specialist officers are providing ongoing support to the victim, and detectives are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice.
