Deliveroo Goes Down, Leaving Thousands of Customers and Drivers Frustrated

Thousands of customers across the UK were left hungry and frustrated today after food delivery service Deliveroo experienced a major outage. The issue, which left users unable to access the app or website, began around midday, with more than 3,000 reports of technical problems recorded on Downdetector.

Although the majority of outages were reported in London, the glitch affected customers and drivers nationwide, and even users as far as France reported issues.

After hours of disruption, Deliveroo announced that the technical problems had been resolved, taking to X (formerly Twitter) to reassure customers: “We are back up and running now, but unfortunately due to a technical issue, some of our customers experienced difficulties placing an order earlier today. We’re really sorry for any inconvenience, and our team worked hard to rectify the situation as quickly as possible.”

Social media platforms were flooded with complaints, as frustrated users voiced their disappointment. One user tweeted: “Deliveroo suddenly down when I already ordered my tunacado sandwich… bro stop playing.” Another exclaimed, “Not the Deliveroo app going down but still having the cheek to send me a notification prompting me to come back to the app!

Deliveroo, which has become a staple for takeaway lovers across the UK, has not disclosed the exact cause of the outage, but one customer speculated it could be due to a DNS issue. Despite the inconvenience, the service is now back online, and Deliveroo has apologized for the disruption.

This technical glitch comes just weeks after Deliveroo co-founder Will Shu sold nearly £15 million worth of shares in the company, following its first-ever profit report. Despite his wealth, Shu, 44, still enjoys delivering food on his bike.

For those affected by the outage, Deliveroo has not yet confirmed whether compensation will be offered to those who experienced delays or lost orders.
