A large police cordon has been established between Strood Retail Park and Morrisons on Knight Road, Strood, as emergency services conduct a multi-agency operation searching the river and the bank at the rear of the supermarket. Emergency services were called just after 11am on Tuesday 22nd October 2024.

The area remains cordoned off, and emergency personnel continue their operation. The public is advised to avoid the area while investigations are ongoing. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.

Specialist boat teams from the Kent Marine Unit and Kent Fire and Rescue Technical Rescue Team were also deployed to assist in the recovery efforts.

UPDATE: 3pm Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called at 11.15am to Knight Road, Strood. One fire engine attended and crews assisted Kent Police.
UPDATE 3.10pm: Kent Police was called at 11.08am on Tuesday 22 October to a report of a body being found near Knight Road, Strood. Officers, South East Coast Ambulance Service, Kent Fire and Rescue Service and H.M. Coastguard attended the scene where a man was confirmed deceased.
Formal identification has yet to take place, but the family of a 25 year old man who was reported missing in the area since Friday 18 October, have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
