A dazzling new mural of Paddington Bear has popped up at London’s South Bank, just in time for the release of Paddington in Peru hitting cinemas on November 8. The vibrant artwork shows Paddington in his signature red hat, welcoming visitors to the capital with cheer.

Paddington’s South Bank Splash

Located on Sutton Walk near the Southbank Centre, the colourful mural is a fresh tribute to Britain’s favourite bear. Created by Peruvian artist Gisella Stapleton, it celebrates Paddington’s roots and his new role as Visit London’s first-ever “welcome ambassador.”

From Peru to London: A True Immigrant Tale

Stapleton’s design draws on the traditional Andean Retablo Ayacuchano art style, symbolising Paddington’s journey from Peru to London. The mural captures the spirit of every immigrant’s story and the city’s warm, inclusive heart.

Simon McCaugherty, Director at VisitLondon.com, said: “We are over the moon to name Paddington as Visit London’s first official welcome ambassador. Paddington has long called London his home and perfectly embodies the city’s spirit of welcome and inclusion.”

He added: “As Paddington himself said, ‘in London everyone is different, and that means anyone can fit in.’”

Star Power and Local Love

Ben Whishaw, the voice behind Paddington, joined the mural unveiling last month, sparking even more buzz for the upcoming film and the bear’s ambassador role.

Stapleton, a London resident for 13 years, said: “This image represents the heart of Paddington – and the heart of every immigrant. London has been a magical place for me where I’ve always felt I fit in.”

Snap It and Share It!

The mural is just a few minutes’ walk from Waterloo Station—perfect for fans to snap an Instagram-worthy shot with the beloved bear. It’s a bright new landmark honouring Michael Bond’s iconic character, who’s been winning hearts since 1958.
