Amber Snow Alert Hits North East and North West England
National Highways has slapped down an Amber Severe Weather Alert for heavy snow across the North East and North West. This warning runs until 10:00am on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
Unlike the Met Office Amber alert, this one targets serious risks on the country’s Strategic Road Network (SRN). Drivers are urged to rethink any travel plans — expect delays and disruption on key routes.
Snow Hits Key Routes — Watch Out!
North West
- A628 (Woodhead Pass, Windle Edge): 10-15cm of snow with possible blown snow.
- A66 (Old Spittal, Stainmore): 10-15cm of snow.
- M62 (J21-23): 10-15cm snow, risk of blown snow.
- A69: 5-10cm of snow.
- M6 (J39, Shap): 10-15cm at Shap; 2-5cm further south near Carlisle.
- M56 (Manchester area): 2-5cm snow.
North East
- A66 (Old Spittal): 10-15cm snow.
- A628 (Woodhead Pass): 10-15cm snow with blown snow possible.
- M62 (J21-23): 10-15cm snow, blown snow risks.
- M1 (Leeds, Sheffield): 1-3cm snow.
