The mother of Harshita Brella, a 24-year-old woman whose body was discovered in the boot of a car in Ilford, east London, has spoken out, demanding justice for her daughter. Harshita’s body was found last Thursday, a day after she was reported missing from her home in Corby, Northamptonshire.

Husband Named as Prime Suspect
Police have named Pankaj Lamba, Harshita’s husband, as the prime suspect in her murder. Detectives believe he killed Harshita and transported her body by car before fleeing the country. Authorities have launched an international manhunt to locate him.
Speaking from Delhi, India, Harshita’s mother, Sudesh Kumari, Said:
“I want my son-in-law to be brought to justice and I want my daughter’s body brought home.”
Life of Struggle in the UK
Harshita moved to the UK in April 2024 after her arranged marriage to Mr Lamba in August 2023. Her sister, Sonia Dabas, described her life in London as difficult, citing issues with her husband.
Ms Dabas recounted an incident where Harshita called her family in India, saying she had fled her husband after being physically abused.
“She said he was hitting her and she escaped. She ran out on the streets, he chased after her and hit her there as well,” Sonia said. “There was a local who intervened, which is why he left her.”
Neighbours Reported Arguments
Neighbours in Corby reported hearing a heated argument from Harshita’s home the night she went missing. The following day, her body was found in the car in Ilford, nearly 100 miles away.
History of Domestic Violence
Harshita was under the protection of a Domestic Violence Protection Order issued in September. The order, which lasted 28 days, barred a man from contacting her or visiting her workplace.
Police Investigation Continues
Detectives are working alongside the Metropolitan Police and Northamptonshire Police to piece together the circumstances of Harshita’s death. Officers are continuing to appeal for information and urging anyone who might have details about Mr. Lamba’s whereabouts to come forward.
Public Reaction
The tragedy has prompted discussions about domestic violence and the challenges faced by women seeking protection. Local authorities have extended their condolences to Harshita’s family, pledging to bring the perpetrator to justice.
