Doncaster Man Jailed for Brutal Daylight Attack

A 32-year-old from Doncaster has been locked up for eight years after launching a ruthless assault that left his victim fighting for life. Andrew McMinn, from York Road, Dunscroft, was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on November 27. He admitted to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing an offensive weapon.

Violent Attack with Hockey Stick

The terrifying incident happened on July 17 on Abbey Road, Dunscroft. McMinn, armed with a hockey stick, attacked his victim without warning. Riding a bike to the scene, he struck the victim seven times across the head, chest, and torso before making a quick getaway.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries in a brutal assault took place in broad daylight on a residential street. Several witnesses watched in horror.

Police Hunt Ends in Arrest

Detective Constable Katie McCreadie led the fast-moving police investigation that brought McMinn to justice.

“After obtaining footage of McMinn fleeing on his bike, we tracked his route to where he dumped both the bike and weapon.”

“Video from that location showed his face and distinctive neck and chest tattoos. With so much evidence linking him directly to the attack, McMinn had no choice but to plead guilty.”

Justice Served for Victim

Following his guilty plea in August, McMinn was handed an eight-year prison sentence.

DC McCreadie said:

“This was an unprovoked daytime attack on a defenceless victim. I’m glad McMinn is now behind bars.”

“The victim suffered life-altering injuries and will carry this trauma forever. Hopefully, this sentence helps him start to heal and shows that justice does prevail.”

This case underlines the power of swift police action and community vigilance in tackling violent crime.
