Machete-Wielding Robber Jailed for Over Four Years After Cranbrook Crime Spree

A 21-year-old machete thug terrorised Cranbrook residents in a string of brutal robberies before being locked up for four years and eight months.

Teenagers and Elderly Targeted in Violent Spree

Cameron Jeffrey struck on the evening of 4 August 2024, targeting vulnerable victims including teenagers and an elderly man. Armed and masked, Jeffrey and his accomplice prowled Cranbrook streets hunting for easy prey.

  • Teens Held at Knifepoint: Three teenage boys relaxing near Cranbrook High Street were confronted. Jeffrey brandished a blade dangerously close to one boy’s face, demanding their belongings.
  • Couple Attacked in Car: An 18-year-old man and his girlfriend were stopped near Headcorn Road, Staplehurst. Jeffrey forced open their car door, pressed a machete to the man’s throat, and stole valuables. After failing to find a wallet, he smashed the windscreen with the machete. The victim escaped by speeding off.

Arrest Made After Mobile Phone Leads Police to Hideout

Police caught up with Jeffrey on 6 August when a stolen phone was traced back to his home in Hawkhurst. Officers found him hiding under a bed and seized several stolen items. Jeffrey also admitted stealing a vehicle on 9 July, tricking an elderly man into a test drive before making off. The car was abandoned after crashing.

Jeffrey pleaded guilty to multiple robberies, carrying a knife in public, and vehicle theft. Maidstone Crown Court handed him a tough sentence of four years and eight months behind bars on 12 December.

Police Condemn Jeffrey’s Ruthless Attacks

Detective Constable Andy Julier said: “Jeffrey preyed on anyone he thought would be easy pickings, from the young to the elderly. His victims endured terrifying ordeals and feared for their lives. He’s a violent, opportunistic criminal who brazenly brandished weapons on our streets. I hope his jail time brings some comfort to those he terrorised and the community.”
