The courage of two Metropolitan Police officers and members of the public has been hailed after they entered a burning building on High Street, NW10, to rescue trapped residents on Friday, December 13.
The fire broke out at a three-story building around 1:10 PM, prompting emergency services to respond swiftly. Upon arrival, officers were met with smoke billowing from windows and reports of residents still inside the first-floor flat.
Heroic Rescue
Two officers, along with brave members of the public, entered the building to guide residents to safety. Upon learning that a man was trapped in an upstairs flat, a member of the public used a ladder from a courtyard to break a window and help the man escape.
All residents were evacuated, and fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. However, three residents and one officer, aged in his 20s, were hospitalised for smoke inhalation. One officer remains in the hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.

Commander Paul Trevers commended the officers and the community for their quick and selfless actions:
“The actions of these officers exemplify the bravery, tenacity, and commitment to public safety that runs through the core of the Met Police. Confronted with a terrifying situation and knowing lives were at risk, they did not hesitate to act. I am immensely proud of their actions, as I’m sure all Londoners will be.
“I would also like to praise the courage of the members of the public who, alongside our officers, ensured the safety of those inside the building.”
