Massive Blaze Rips Through Historic Weymouth Building!
Historic Building Goes Up in Flames
A huge fire erupted early Saturday morning in a landmark three-storey building on King Street, Weymouth town centre. The blaze broke out at 07:38 GMT at the Dorset Burger Company, housed in a former eye hospital dating back to 1871. Flames quickly engulfed the structure, forcing a huge emergency response.
More than 60 firefighters from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) rushed to the scene, battling relentlessly to contain the inferno in the cherished historic building.
Roads Closed and Travel Chaos
Authorities shut down King Street and urged locals and visitors to steer clear of the area. Access to Weymouth Railway Station is limited, throwing travel plans into chaos for commuters trying to get through the town.
Bus operator Damory confirmed major disruption on the CR8 route will last most of the day due to road closures. Expect delays and detours if you plan to use public transport in the area.
Emergency Response in Full Force
Fire crews from Weymouth, Dorchester, Portland, Bere Regis, Maiden Newton, Wareham, Bridport, Charmouth, and Yeovil have been deployed. Officials have also imposed a no-fly zone for drones over the blaze zone to keep emergency efforts unhindered.
Public Urged to Keep Clear
A DWFRS spokesperson said: “We advise everyone to stay away from the affected area while our crews work tirelessly to bring the fire under control.”
The cause of the blaze remains unknown as investigations continue. Stay tuned for updates as this dramatic situation develops.
