A46 Closed in Both Directions After Car Aquaplanes in Warwickshire

A serious road traffic collision has forced the closure of the A46 in both directions between the A452 (near Kenilworth) and Junction 15 of the M40, after a car reportedly aquaplaned due to flooding.

Emergency Response Underway

Warwickshire Police and National Highways traffic officers are currently on the scene, assisting with traffic management and assessing the situation. Contractors from National Highways are also en route to manage the flooding conditions, which are believed to have contributed to the accident.

The severity of injuries or the number of vehicles involved has not yet been confirmed.

Traffic Diversions and Delays Expected

Traffic is being diverted via local routes, and significant delays are expected in the surrounding areas. Commuters and motorists planning to use the A46 are advised to:

  • Allow extra journey time
  • Follow diversion signs
  • Consider alternative routes
  • Delay travel if possible

Authorities Issue Safety Warning

Officials have warned drivers to be cautious of surface water and hazardous driving conditions, as heavy rain continues to impact the region.

A spokesperson for National Highways stated:
“Flooding is a major concern, and we urge all motorists to drive with caution. Our teams are working to clear standing water as quickly as possible.”
