Detectives are continuing investigations into the death of a 70-year-old woman at an address in Newton Poppleford last Friday.
Police were alerted to concerns for the woman’s welfare at a property on Lark Rise at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Friday, 17 January. Emergency services attended the scene, but the woman was pronounced deceased.
Investigation Ongoing
Officers have stated that enquiries are ongoing to locate the woman’s next of kin. A police cordon initially set up around the property has now been lifted.
Detective Inspector Guy Biggar of the Major Crime Investigation Team said:
“It is believed that the deceased and the suspect are known to each other. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
“We are appealing for anyone with information that could help us with our enquiries to please come forward.”
Arrest Made
A 67-year-old man from the Newton Poppleford area has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been released on bail pending further investigation.
