Man Charged with Murder of 31-Year-Old Woman in Croydon

A 21-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Jamelatu Tsiwah, 31, who was found dead at an address in Bensham Lane, Croydon, on Monday, 20 January.

Details of the Incident

  • Suspect Charged: Larry Nimoh, 21, of no fixed address, has been charged with murder and attempted murder. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday, 23 January.
  • Victim Identified: The victim has been formally identified as Jamelatu Tsiwah, a resident of Croydon.
  • Time of Incident: Emergency services were called to the property at around 7pm following reports of an unresponsive woman.
  • Despite the efforts of the London Ambulance Service, Jamelatu was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation and Community Reassurance

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila, leading the investigation, confirmed that the suspect and the victim were known to each other, and there is no wider threat to the community. He stated:
“Today’s update will bring some reassurance to Jamelatu’s family and the community. We have worked tirelessly to secure a charge and build a picture of what happened on Monday evening.”

Ongoing Appeal

DCI Gammampila urged anyone who was in the Bensham Lane area between 6pm and 7pm on Monday to come forward with any information:
“I would like to hear from anyone who may have seen something suspicious or someone fleeing from the property. Any information, no matter how small, could assist our investigation.”

Cause of Death

A special post-mortem examination revealed that Jamelatu died due to neck compression.
