4-Year-Old Child Fighting for Life After Being Hit by Car in Ilford

A young child is in critical condition after being struck by a car at a busy junction in Ilford this morning.

The incident occurred at the junction of Cranbrook Road and Gantshill Crescent just after 8:50 AM on Friday, February 7, 2025.

Emergency Response and Child’s Condition

Police officers and London Ambulance Service (LAS) crews rushed to the scene, where they found the four-year-old child severely injured. Due to the severity of their condition, the child was immediately transported to a major trauma centre for urgent medical treatment.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the child remains in critical condition, and no arrests have been made at this stage as investigations continue.

A spokesperson for the Met Police issued a statement, saying:

“Police were called at 8:56 AM on Friday, 7 February to Cranbrook Road, Ilford following a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.
“The pedestrian, a 4-year-old child, was taken to hospital where they remain in a critical condition.
“Enquiries remain ongoing, and no arrests have been made.”

London Ambulance Service Statement

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) confirmed they responded to the incident with multiple emergency resources, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, and London’s Air Ambulance.

An LAS spokesperson said:

“We were called at 8:51 AM today (7 February) to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Cranbrook Road and Gantshill Crescent, Ilford.
“We treated a child at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority.”

Traffic Disruption and Ongoing Investigation

The crash led to significant traffic disruption, with Cranbrook Road closed for several hours as emergency services worked at the scene. Live traffic updates advised motorists to seek alternative routes.

Appeal for Witnesses

Police are urging any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage to come forward to help with the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference CAD 1415/07Feb.
