Kent Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenage boy was targeted in an attempted robbery while riding his e-scooter in Margate on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
The incident occurred at around 7:00 PM as the victim was travelling along Approach Road towards Northdown Park Road. When the teenager stopped at the junction of Lower Northdown Avenue, another boy, also on an e-scooter, approached him and launched an assault, attempting to steal the victim’s scooter.
Taser-like Weapon Used in Attack
During the struggle, the attacker reportedly brandished a weapon described as similar to a taser and used it in an attempt to intimidate the victim. Fortunately, a woman passing by intervened, causing the would-be thief to flee the scene empty-handed.
The teenage victim did not sustain any injuries but was left shaken by the ordeal.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage
Detectives from Kent Police are actively investigating the incident and are keen to speak to any witnesses, particularly the woman who intervened during the robbery attempt.
“This was a frightening incident for the victim, and we are determined to identify the person responsible,” said a Kent Police spokesperson. “We are especially keen to speak with the brave member of the public who stepped in and may have crucial information about the attacker.”
Police are also asking for anyone who may have CCTV, doorbell camera, or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
