Man Seriously Hurt After Metal Bar Assault on Castle Street
Thames Valley Police are on the hunt for two teenage boys after a violent attack on a 50-year-old man in Oxford. The shocking assault happened on the evening of Wednesday, January 29, when the victim was hit on the head with a metal bar on Castle Street.
The man suffered a deep facial cut and was rushed to hospital. Thankfully, he has since been discharged and is recovering at home.
Intervention Turns Ugly
The victim reportedly stepped in to break up a confrontation involving a group of teens at around 8:30 PM. The situation quickly escalated when one of the youths swung a metal bar, striking the man’s head. Emergency crews responded swiftly, but the attack has raised major concerns about rising youth violence in the city.
CCTV Released as Police Step Up Search
Police have issued CCTV images showing two teenage suspects near the scene shortly before the attack. Detective Inspector Sarah Lawson said:
“This was a shocking and unprovoked act of violence. We are committed to finding those responsible and holding them accountable. We urge the public to take a close look at the images and contact us if they recognise the individuals or have any information.”

Castle Street was busy when the attack happened, and police believe witnesses may hold key information. Thames Valley Police are asking anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage, or who was in the area, to come forward immediately.

The attack has reignited fears about violent behaviour among Oxford’s young people. Local councillor Emily Richards called for a united front:
“This violent attack is deeply troubling, especially given the use of a weapon. We must come together as a community to support the police and ensure our streets stay safe.”
