Teen Thugs Wield Metal Bar in Brutal Oxford Attack – Police Hunt Youths

Man Seriously Hurt After Metal Bar Assault on Castle Street

Thames Valley Police are on the hunt for two teenage boys after a violent attack on a 50-year-old man in Oxford. The shocking assault happened on the evening of Wednesday, January 29, when the victim was hit on the head with a metal bar on Castle Street.

The man suffered a deep facial cut and was rushed to hospital. Thankfully, he has since been discharged and is recovering at home.

Intervention Turns Ugly

The victim reportedly stepped in to break up a confrontation involving a group of teens at around 8:30 PM. The situation quickly escalated when one of the youths swung a metal bar, striking the man’s head. Emergency crews responded swiftly, but the attack has raised major concerns about rising youth violence in the city.

CCTV Released as Police Step Up Search

Police have issued CCTV images showing two teenage suspects near the scene shortly before the attack. Detective Inspector Sarah Lawson said:

“This was a shocking and unprovoked act of violence. We are committed to finding those responsible and holding them accountable. We urge the public to take a close look at the images and contact us if they recognise the individuals or have any information.”

Community Call to Action

Castle Street was busy when the attack happened, and police believe witnesses may hold key information. Thames Valley Police are asking anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage, or who was in the area, to come forward immediately.

Calls for Community Unity Amid Rising Youth Violence

The attack has reignited fears about violent behaviour among Oxford’s young people. Local councillor Emily Richards called for a united front:

“This violent attack is deeply troubling, especially given the use of a weapon. We must come together as a community to support the police and ensure our streets stay safe.”

Investigation Continues

Thames Valley Police are piecing together witness reports, CCTV, and forensic evidence as they track down the two teens. Detective Inspector Lawson added:

“The public’s help is crucial. Even the smallest tip could crack this case. We are determined to bring the offenders to justice.”
