Spanish authorities have launched an investigation after the body of a British man was discovered in the waters of Duquesa Port near Estepona in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The man, believed to be around 60 years old, was found fully clothed and floating between boats at the popular marina around 4:30 a.m. Emergency services, including local police, Civil Guard officers, and firefighters, were quickly mobilized after the body was spotted. Despite the rapid response, there was nothing that could be done to save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation Underway
The Civil Guard is currently probing the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. Initial reports suggest there were no obvious signs of injury or indications of foul play, but a post-mortem examination has been scheduled to confirm the cause of death.
A Civil Guard spokesperson confirmed the victim’s nationality, stating: “I can confirm the dead man is British. The death is still being investigated, but at this stage, everything is pointing to it being an accident.”
There has been speculation about the events leading up to the discovery. Local news outlet Manilva.ws reported unconfirmed accounts of “shots heard in the area” prior to the body being found. However, Civil Guard officials have dismissed these claims, saying they were unaware of any gunfire and have ruled out any connection between such reports and the man’s death.
Community in Shock
The discovery has left the local community and tourists in shock, with many questioning how such a tragedy could occur in a typically peaceful area. La Duquesa port is not only a bustling hub for tourism but is also situated near some of the world’s most renowned golf courses, making it a prime location for international visitors.
For now, the mystery surrounding the British man’s death continues, as investigators work to piece together his final moments. Anyone with information is urged to contact local authorities as they continue their inquiries.
