Swindon Burglar Jailed for Over Two Years After Bag Snatch and Card Fraud
Daniel Melhado Caught Red-Handed
Daniel Melhado, 40, from Tudor Walk, Walcot, was slapped with a hefty two-year and five-month prison sentence at Swindon Crown Court on Friday, February 28. Melhado admitted to breaking into a property on Devizes Road on January 13, nicking a handbag, and then brazenly trying to spend bank cards stolen from it at an off-licence on Victoria Road.
Police Speak Out on Crime Impact
PC Charlie Forster, the officer behind the investigation, condemned Melhado’s actions:
“Melhado is a prolific burglar who targeted the victim’s home when they weren’t there, stealing items with cold calculation.” “Thanks to strong public support, we gathered the evidence needed to convict him.” “Burglary leaves victims shaken and vulnerable in their own homes. We’re committed to taking offenders like Melhado off the streets to keep Swindon and Wiltshire safe.
Justice Served, But Public Must Stay Alert
Alongside jail time, Melhado was hit with a £228 surcharge. Wiltshire Police urge locals to stay vigilant and report anything dodgy by calling 101, or 999 if it’s urgent. This sentence sends a clear message: burglars will face tough consequences in Swindon.
