Park Visitor Scared Off by Boozy Gang in Lee Valley

A lone park-goer was forced to abandon their bench in Lee Valley Park after six drinkers swaggered up, beers in hand, and planted themselves nearby.

The victim, simply wanting some peace, felt intimidated and chose to walk away rather than risk a confrontation.

“If someone is sitting on a bench, it means it is occupied. And you move on. I was sitting on a bench. A group of six people approached, with beers. They stood by the bench. I was scared, I gave up and moved on. I will not argue with drunkards.”

Growing Worries Over Safety and Antisocial Behaviour

This alarming incident shines a spotlight on the rising problem of antisocial behaviour in public parks, where rowdy groups and excessive drinking leave others feeling unsafe and unwelcome.

  • Alcohol-fuelled disturbances including public drunkenness, threats, and litter are on the rise.
  • With police seldom visible, many park visitors feel vulnerable and reluctant to report troublemakers.

Calls for Tougher Patrols and Stricter Rules

Locals demand urgent action to tackle the menace:

  • More frequent patrols by park rangers or police to clamp down on antisocial gangs.
  • Clearer laws restricting alcohol consumption in public green spaces.
  • Greater public education on respecting shared spaces to keep parks safe for all.

See Something? Say Something

If you witness antisocial or intimidating behaviour in parks, don’t stay silent. Report incidents to:

  • Local police via 101
  • Your council’s antisocial behaviour team
  • Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111

Public parks should be safe havens for all – it’s time authorities and communities joined forces to protect them from fear and disorder.
