Thug Jailed for Kicking Elderly Man in the Face During Wallet Robbery
A ruthless robber who mugged an elderly man then kicked him in the face has finally been locked up.
Brutal Attack in Broad Daylight
Reece Lucas, 24, targeted a man in his 70s on Sandgate Road, Folkestone, on the evening of May 13, 2019. The victim had paused to catch his breath while carrying shopping when Lucas demanded £10. When the man refused and tried to seek help, Lucas dragged him to the ground, stole his wallet, then viciously kicked him in the face before fleeing.
The elderly victim suffered facial injuries from the savage assault.
Failed Attempts to Rob and Burgle
- Just 5 minutes later, Lucas was caught rifling through the stolen wallet in Pleydell Gardens.
- He then followed a couple in their 60s, demanding money — but they stood their ground, leaving Lucas empty-handed.
- Later, he was spotted crouching between houses on Bouverie Road West. A resident threatened to call the police, forcing him to flee — though not before causing fence damage trying to break in.
Four Crimes, One Conviction
Kent Police tracked Lucas down and charged him with robbery, two attempted robberies, and an attempted burglary. He pleaded guilty to all at Canterbury Crown Court on July 9, 2020.
Lucas, of Oxenden Road, Folkestone, was sentenced to four years behind bars on September 21.
Police Condemn Attack
“The actions of Reece Lucas that evening were repugnant,” said DC Sam Minichiello. “He targeted an elderly man, demanded cash, then attacked him when things didn’t go his way.
“As the man lay on the ground, offering his wallet in desperation, Lucas took it and then carried out a final act of violence.
“Showing next to no remorse, he went on to intimidate two more people and attempt a burglary.
“It must have been terrifying for his victims. I hope they feel safer knowing he’s off the streets.”
