Man Charged with Murder Following Fatal Stabbing in Coventry

A man has been charged with murder and attempted murder following a fatal double stabbing in Newcombe Road, Coventry, which tragically claimed the life of 50-year-old Anthony Wilson.

West Midlands Police confirmed that officers were called to an address just before 2:00pm on Saturday (15 March) after reports of a serious incident involving two men with stab wounds.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, Anthony Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man, also in his 50s, suffered potentially life-changing facial injuries and remains in hospital.

Tributes Paid to Anthony Wilson

Mr Wilson’s family issued a heartfelt tribute, saying:
“We are profoundly sorry that his life has been taken in this way. The tragic circumstances are particularly distressing, and we are grateful to learn of the help and support received at the time from his neighbours and friends.”

A photograph released by the family shows Anthony smiling in a younger image, remembered fondly by those close to him.

Suspect Charged and Court Appearance

James Ritchie, aged 51, of no fixed address, was charged on Sunday night with murder and attempted murder. He appeared before Coventry Magistrates’ Court today (Monday).

West Midlands Police have confirmed that additional patrols will be carried out in the Newcombe Road area over the coming days to provide community reassurance and support.

Detectives continue to investigate the incident and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

A police spokesperson said: “We understand this incident has caused great shock in the community. Our thoughts remain with Anthony’s family at this incredibly difficult time, and we are committed to seeking justice.”
