A brazen moped rider’s motorway stunt near Slough ended in disaster thanks to Thames Valley Police’s Roads Policing Unit (RPU). The rider dared to weave through high-speed traffic on a busy four-lane motorway – despite their slow moped topping out at just 28mph.
Moped vs Motorway: A Deadly Mismatch
The tiny moped struggled among roaring cars and lumbering lorries, creating a recipe for disaster. Luckily, officers were on the ball and stopped the reckless ride before it turned nasty.
“We often wonder what goes through people’s heads before they make a decision… ‘My moped only goes about 28mph… Shall I go on the big four-lane motorway with really fast cars and big lorries?’ ? yes, no, yes, no…?♂️ ‘I’ll do it anyway.’ ?♂️”
No Insurance – Moped Confiscated
Further checks revealed the rider had no insurance. Thames Valley Police instantly seized the moped, with legal action now looming over the rider’s head.
Police Warning: Mopeds Banned on Motorways
Police remind everyone that mopeds and other low-powered vehicles are banned on motorways for safety and legal reasons. They’re simply not built for such dangerous roads.
“The safety of all road users is our priority. Vehicles not suited for motorway use pose a serious danger to themselves and others. We urge all drivers and riders to ensure their vehicles are road legal and appropriate for the roads they’re travelling on.” – Thames Valley Police spokesperson
The cheeky stunt has sparked heated online debate about road safety and the dangers of uninsured, unsuitable vehicles hogging major routes.
