Woman Arrested for Assaulting Officer After Drunken Incident at West Croydon Tram Stop

An 18-year-old woman has been arrested after a drunken disturbance at the West Croydon tram stop escalated into a violent incident involving police officers and members of the public.

Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the scene at around 8:30pm on Monday, 17 March, following reports of a concern for welfare near the tram station.

Upon arrival, officers found the woman to be drunk and disorderly. While attempting to arrest her, the situation escalated further. The woman allegedly spat at an officer and members of the gathered crowd, and was subsequently arrested for assaulting an emergency worker.

A BTP spokesperson confirmed:

“Officers were called to a concern for welfare near West Croydon tram stop on Monday, 17 March at around 8.30pm. One woman aged 18 was arrested for being drunk and disorderly and further arrested for assaulting an emergency worker.”

The incident drew attention from bystanders, and footage circulating on social media reportedly shows the woman shouting and lashing out as officers tried to restrain her.

No injuries to officers or members of the public have been reported.

Police say enquiries are ongoing, and the woman remains under investigation.
