Norwood Primary & Pre-School in Eastleigh has issued a public statement addressing community concerns and potential protest activity following a letter sent to parents about the school’s Easter celebrations.

In a letter signed by Headteacher Miss Stephanie Mander, the school confirmed that it is marking Easter as it does other religious festivals, despite misinformation circulating online and heightened public scrutiny.

The school has thanked those in the community who have offered messages of support, describing the situation as a reflection of the school’s strong community spirit. However, it also acknowledged growing concern about potential protests and confirmed that it is working closely with police to monitor the situation to ensure the safety of pupils and staff.

“All children are safe in school, and we have robust safeguarding processes in place which are followed at all times,” Miss Mander stated.

The letter emphasised that Easter will be celebrated in school through Religious Education (R.E.) lessons and school assemblies throughout the term. Students will also continue to enjoy Easter-themed activities, such as seasonal crafts, as the holiday approaches.

Miss Mander also encouraged parents to use existing school communication channels to raise any concerns:

“We have clear and well-established channels in place which enable parents to raise any questions or matters they may wish to discuss. We continue to encourage parents to use and engage with these processes as the most direct and constructive route.”

The school has also provided a link to its safeguarding information, reinforcing its commitment to student welfare.

The situation follows an increase in public commentary and misinformation online regarding the school’s approach to religious events.
