A suspected bomb brought into Bromley Police Station on Saturday evening triggered an emergency response and the swift implementation of a safety cordon.
The incident began at around 6.15pm on April 12, when a member of the public arrived at the station with what they believed to be an unexploded device. Officers at the front desk immediately raised the alarm and called in specialist teams to assess the potentially hazardous item.
Swift Response
The Metropolitan Police moved quickly to secure the area, establishing a precautionary cordon to protect both staff and the public. The police station was temporarily closed as a result.
Just under an hour later, at 7.11pm, bomb disposal experts determined that the object posed no risk to the public. It was safely removed from the scene and the cordon was lifted by 7.15pm.
No Injuries Reported
The incident was resolved without any injuries, and the station resumed normal operations shortly afterward.
A Met Police spokesperson said:
“A member of the public reported a suspected unexploded ordnance in Bromley Police Station at Saturday, 12 April at 18:16hrs.
A precautionary safety cordon was put in place.
At 19:11hrs, the item was deemed not to be a risk to the public and was removed from the location by specialist officers. The cordon was lifted at 19:15hrs.”
Public Reassurance
Though the situation caused concern locally, police have reassured the public that it was a false alarm and that all necessary procedures were followed to ensure safety.
