A murder investigation is underway after a 21-year-old man was stabbed to death outside a block of flats in Kennington, South London, on Monday evening (14 April).
Emergency services were called to Hillingdon Street, SE17, at approximately 9.16pm, following reports of a stabbing in the heavily residential area.
Despite the best efforts of the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are yet to be formally informed, and efforts are ongoing to trace them.
Six Arrested on Suspicion of Murder
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that six individuals — five men and one woman, all aged in their 20s — have been arrested on suspicion of murder. They are currently being held in police custody for questioning.
A significant police cordon remains in place today (15 April), with a yellow forensic tent erected at the scene as detectives continue their enquiries. Several crime scenes have been established in the area, and residents are being urged to avoid the vicinity where possible.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Borough Commander Emma Bond, who oversees policing in Southwark, described the attack as “shocking and unsettling” for the local community.
“We understand this news is both shocking and unsettling,” she said.
“Our investigations continue and there will be an increased police presence in the area. I advise anyone in the community who has concerns to speak to their local officers.”
Commander Bond appealed directly to the public for help:
“Please, if you saw, heard, or have any footage following last night’s incident, then please come forward. Your information can significantly help our detectives.”
Emergency Services Responded Within Minutes
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service confirmed they received the call at 9.16pm, deploying a full emergency response including paramedics, an advanced paramedic, incident response officer, and London’s Air Ambulance. The first crew arrived within four minutes.
“Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency responders, he died at the scene,” the spokesperson added.
Investigation Ongoing
The Met Police continue to appeal for witnesses and ask anyone with information to call 101, quoting CAD 7392/14APR, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
