Blaze in Brentwood Garage Sparks Mayhem
A fire broke out in a Brentwood garage yesterday and quickly tore through nearby vehicles and outbuildings, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.
The inferno spread from the garage to three cars, a summer house, a shed, and a fence near Hunters Chase. Fire crews from Billericay, Brentwood, Basildon, Wickford, and Corringham stations rushed to the scene.
Candle-Making Sparks Fiery Disaster
The flames reportedly ignited while the resident was making wax candles in the garage. Nearby flammable items caught fire, fueling the rapid spread.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported but the damage to property was severe.
On-Call Firefighters to the Rescue
Many responders were on-call firefighters, local heroes who live or work within five minutes of their fire station. They’re paid to drop everything and fight fires in the community at a moment’s notice.
“The quick response of our on-call firefighters helped contain the fire and prevent further spread. Incidents like this show just how vital our on-call team members are,” a fire service spokesperson said.
Want to Join the Fight?
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is urging locals living or working near a fire station to consider becoming on-call firefighters.
“If you live or work within five minutes of an on-call station, you could play a crucial role in protecting your community,” added the spokesperson.

Investigation Underway
An investigation is ongoing. Officials suspect the fire was accidentally triggered by the flammable materials near the candle-making activity.
