The first photograph has been released of Harpal Singh Roopra, the 38-year-old architect who was tragically stabbed to death just weeks before he was due to marry the love of his life.
Mr. Roopra was found with fatal stab wounds outside a property on Ellerman Avenue, Twickenham, shortly before midnight on Saturday, 26 April 2025. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he died at the scene.
The victim had been temporarily living at the address while preparing a future home for himself and his fiancée in Wembley. His family, speaking today, have paid tribute to their “beautiful boy” who was described as a hard-working, family-loving man with a bright future ahead.

His grieving father, Harbans Singh, said:
“We have lost our beautiful boy. He had his life ahead of him. He was going to get married to the love of his life, and we were so excited. He had moved out temporarily to renovate the marital home. We can’t believe what has happened. My son was the most peaceful man, loving and hardworking.”
Mr. Roopra was known as a doting uncle and much-loved brother among his siblings. His eldest brother, Amajit, added:
“He was the person who would do anything for anyone. He loved life and was looking forward to marrying. He loved films, rode a motorcycle, and had the best heart. To think us four brothers are now three is just too much to take.”
Police have charged George Luka, 45, of Ellerman Avenue, Twickenham, with murder. He appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court this morning.
Neighbours React to Shock Incident
Residents of the typically quiet suburban street described hearing aggressive shouting moments before the fatal stabbing. One neighbour said:
“We heard shouting and then the road was full of police and ambulances. It was a shocking and horrific scene.”
Another added:
“It’s a lovely area, totally not what we expect. To wake up to this on your doorstep is horrific.”
Ongoing Investigation
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, who is leading the investigation, said:
“A team of detectives are working to piece together the circumstances that resulted in this tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time. Officers will remain in the area today to gather evidence and provide reassurance to the community.”
Police are appealing for anyone with information, CCTV, or doorbell footage from the area to come forward.
This heartbreaking incident comes just days after new figures revealed London’s rising crime hotspots, highlighting concerns about violence in the capital.
