Man Charged with Rape and Murder of Joanna Derkacz in Hampshire

A man has been charged with the brutal rape and murder of 37-year-old Joanna Derkacz. Her body was found in a Hampshire home last December, sparking a major police investigation.

Tragic Discovery in Waterlooville

Police were called to a property on Nevinson Way, Waterlooville, at 11:30am on Thursday, 28 December 2023. Joanna was found dead inside.

A man at the scene suffered arm injuries and was initially arrested on suspicion of coercive or controlling behaviour and criminal damage.

Man Charged After Months of Investigation

After a detailed Home Office post-mortem and months of probing, Stephen Edward Sexton, 37, from Cherrywood Gardens, Totton, has been charged with the rape and murder of Joanna.

Sexton is set to appear at southampton-magistrates-court" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 10 May.

Heartfelt Tributes Pour In

Joanna’s family and friends have paid emotional tributes to the Polish-born recruitment consultant. Described as a “special daughter, auntie, and sister,” her sister shared a moving poem promising to fight for justice:

“We will 1 you always sweet angel… I’ll fight for the justice till my last breath. I promise.”

Friend Viola Signejeva said:

“She was always a source of positivity, energy, and enthusiasm. It’s too early for her. Rest in peace, Jo.”

Another friend, Aniya Malkosz, added:

“Nothing will ever be the same without you here… Goodbye, Sunshine.”

Police Confirm Ongoing Investigation

A Hampshire Police spokesperson said:

“A detailed investigation has been undertaken to establish what happened and how Joanna died. Expert evidence led to the decision to bring these charges.”

Sexton remains in custody and will face magistrates on 10 May. The case is expected to proceed to Crown Court for further hearings.
