Devastating Blaze Destroys Homes on Launceston Outskirts
In the early hours of Saturday, 11 May 2025, a massive fire tore through multiple homes on the edge of Launceston, leaving families homeless and emergency services scrambling. The inferno sparked a huge emergency response, with fire crews called in from across Cornwall and Devon to battle the flames.
Emergency Services Battle Overnight Inferno
The alarm was raised at 1:48am, mobilising both fire engines from Launceston Community Fire Station. Firefighters quickly upgraded the situation to a “make pumps 4” incident, bringing in crews from Delabole and Bodmin. As the fire raged on, the response escalated further to “make pumps 6,” calling in reinforcements from Liskeard and Holsworthy, plus an Aerial Ladder Platform from Crownhill, breathing apparatus support from St Austell" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">St Austell, and a water carrier from Liskeard.
Residents Safe But Homes Lost
Despite the ferocity of the blaze, emergency services confirmed that all residents escaped unharmed. However, the properties were completely gutted, leaving families devastated and homeless.
“This was a major incident with a huge emergency response,” said Launceston Fire Station. “A devastating outcome for the occupants who have lost all their belongings, but most importantly, everyone is safe.”
Padstow Community Fire Station crews will remain on site throughout the day to monitor hotspots and dampen down the affected area.
