Building Firm and Four Men Charged Over Woman Crushed by Falling Bricks in Bethnal Green
A major London developer and four men have been hit with serious charges following the tragic death of Michaela Boor, 28, who was crushed by a massive pallet of bricks dropped from a tower crane in Bethnal Green back in 2018.
Tragedy on St Pauls Way
On the morning of Tuesday, 27 March 2018, a pallet weighing more than two tonnes plummeted from a crane on St Pauls Way, East London. Michaela was struck and later died from her injuries in hospital the next day.
Corporate Manslaughter and Gross Negligence Charges
After a joint probe by the Met Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), leading developer Higgins Homes PLC faces charges of corporate manslaughter and breaching safety laws under Section 3 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Meanwhile, four men involved with the crane operations that day have been slapped with gross negligence manslaughter charges plus breaches of Section 7 of the same act, which covers workers’ safety duties:
- Alexander McInnes, 32, crane operator from Islington – charged 8 May.
- Dawood Maan, 59, crane supervisor from Ashford, Kent – charged 30 April.
- Stephen Coulson, 68, Hemel Hempstead" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Hemel Hempstead, responsible for lifting plan – charged 30 April.
- Thomas Anstis, 68, Site Manager and Temporary Works Coordinator from Banstead – charged 8 May.
Court Date Set for June
All five defendants are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 16 June, as the case moves forward in pursuit of justice for Michaela.
