Chemical Chaos at Busy Greenwich Junction

Five people suffered minor injuries after a corrosive chemical spill turned a busy London junction into a hazard zone on Wednesday evening.

Accidental Spill of Watered-Down Bleach

The Metropolitan Police rushed to the junction of Church Street and Welland Street at 5:22pm on 14 May after reports of a corrosive substance being thrown. Firefighters and paramedics arrived swiftly and discovered the spill was accidental, not malicious.

Police later identified the substance as watered-down bleach. A Met spokesperson said:

“Officers were called to reports of a corrosive substance in Greenwich. Emergency services attended and established that the substance had been spilt accidentally. Five people were treated for minor injuries. No arrests have been made.”

No Ongoing Danger to Public

All injured were treated on-site with no hospital visits needed. Authorities confirmed the public faces no further risk. The affected area was cleared quickly once deemed safe by emergency crews.

Police Urge Vigilance

Though the spill was an accident, the Met Police are urging locals to stay alert and report any suspicious activity involving hazardous materials. If you have information on the incident, call 101 and quote the time and location.
