Dartford Crossing Tunnel Closures: Drivers Warned of Major Overnight Disruption This Week – UKNIP

Motorists are being urged to plan ahead as overnight closures are scheduled for the Dartford Crossing throughout this week, impacting both the East and West tunnels.

The East Tunnel will be closed to northbound traffic on four nights, starting Monday 9 June through Friday 13 June, for planned maintenance work. Diversions will be in place via the National Highways network.

A separate closure is planned on Sunday night (15 June) into Monday (16 June), when the West Tunnel will also be shut, affecting traffic flow across the River Thames between Dartford (Kent) and Thurrock (Essex).

 Full Closure Schedule

Monday 9 June – Friday 13 June (except Friday night):

  • East Tunnel (A282 Northbound) closed overnight

  • Times: 10:00pm to 5:30am

  • Diversion: Via National Highways signed routes

Sunday 15 June – Monday 16 June:

  • West Tunnel (A282 Northbound) closure

  • Times: 10:00pm to 5:30am

  • Contraflow/diversions will apply

  • East Tunnel to be used in contraflow mode where applicable

What This Means for Drivers

The Dartford Crossing is one of the UK’s busiest road links over the Thames, carrying hundreds of thousands of vehicles weekly. The overnight closures are likely to result in delays and congestion, especially during the early morning hours as traffic builds.

National Highways advises motorists to:

  • Plan journeys in advance

  • Check for live traffic updates

  • Consider alternative routes where possible
