Arson Spree Hits Lordshill: Police Hunt Young Firebugs

Southampton Police are on high alert after a string of arson attacks in the Lordshill area over the past few weeks. Bushes in woodlands near Aldermoor Park and Sinclair School have been set ablaze, sparking fears for local wildlife and residents.

Fires at District Centre and Underpass

But it’s not just the woods making headlines. Vandals torched a portable toilet in the Lordshill District Centre car park and a wheelie bin full of rubbish in the underpass beneath Lordshill Way. Hampshire Fire and Rescue teams rushed to each scene to douse the flames before disaster struck.

Youths Aged 12-14 Spotted at Scene

Most reports describe groups of young people, aged 12 to 14, hanging around as the fires broke out. Southamption’s Neighbourhood Officers are stepping up patrols in the area, diverting resources to keep the peace and stop the damage spreading.

“Fire is extremely dangerous and can quickly get out of control. The heat and toxic smoke can kill very quickly,” officers warn. “If the wildlife in the woodland could talk, they would beg for their homes not to be destroyed.”

Community urged to report suspicious activity

The police are teaming up with Hampshire Fire and Rescue and local schools to tackle the blaze problem at its root. Residents are urged to keep an eye out for groups with lighters or anything that could start fires.

Officers have the power to stop and search anyone suspected of carrying items used to commit criminal damage. All it takes is a quick call with a location and description to help stop these destructive youngsters in their tracks.
