Light Aircraft Crash in Stebbing Prompts Major Emergency Response

Default Heading H1

A light aircraft has crashed in Stebbing, Essex, this afternoon (30 June), prompting a large emergency response from fire crews, police, paramedics and air ambulance teams.

Firefighters from Dunmow, Newport, Brentwood, and Saffron Walden were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, crews found the aircraft had one occupant inside and quickly worked alongside other emergency services to rescue the casualty and secure the area.

Firefighters Act Fast to Prevent Fire Risk

Station Manager Scott Fretton, who oversaw the incident, said:

“Crews assisted our emergency services colleagues with the casualty. They used an off-road vehicle to dampen down the area around the aircraft as there was a risk it would set alight.”

The casualty was successfully rescued from the wreckage and handed over to the care of the Ambulance and Air Ambulance Service.

Emergency Preparedness Praised

Most of the attending responders were on-call firefighters—members of the community who live or work within five minutes of a fire station and are paid to respond to emergencies.

Essex Fire and Rescue are encouraging people to consider joining as on-call firefighters, stating:

“If you want to protect your local community, search ‘Join Essex Fire‘ to apply.”
