Teen Jailed for Stabbing Man in Southampton Knife Attack
A 17-year-old youth has been locked up for three and a half years after stabbing a man in Southampton last year. The teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent at Southampton Crown Court on 28 January 2022.
Attack Sparks After Verbal Row at Bus Stop
The victim, a 30-year-old man, was walking home after work on 5 March 2021 when he passed two boys sitting at a bus stop on Onslow Road. The boys started swearing at him, prompting him to stop and challenge them. After the man moved on to Kingsbury Road, the boys followed him, and an altercation erupted.
During the confrontation, the man was stabbed in the right side of his chest. Witnesses rushed to help the injured victim until paramedics arrived and rushed him to Southampton General Hospital for emergency surgery. Thankfully, he survived but was left with permanent scarring.
Second Teen Gets Six-Month Referral Order
A second 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty to assault by beating at an earlier hearing. He received a six-month referral order at Southampton Youth Court on 17 May 2021.
Police & Violence Reduction Unit Warn: No Good Comes from Carrying Knives
“This senseless act of violence could have easily resulted in far worse consequences,” said Detective Constable Adrian Lugg. “Tackling knife crime in our city and keeping people safe is an absolute priority. I hope today’s sentence sends a clear message: we will do everything to take knives and offenders off the streets. No good ever comes from carrying knives.”
Chris Brown from Southampton’s Violence Reduction Unit added, “This incident shows the stupidity of carrying knives – a minor dispute escalated with devastating consequences. Both victim and offender will live with this trauma for years. We need everyone to help stop knife carrying by reinforcing the message with friends and family.”
