Warning Issued as Contaminated Vapes Laced with Dangerous Spice Hit Wiltshire Schools
Wiltshire Police are sounding the alarm over a spike in vapes contaminated with the synthetic drug Spice. These dangerous devices, seized in local secondary schools, pose a severe health threat to students. Using new vape-testing kits, officers are cracking down hard to keep pupils safe.
Spice-Laced Vapes Spark Health Scares in Schools
Spice, a synthetic drug that mimics cannabis but with far nastier effects, has been found in vapes across the UK – and Wiltshire is no exception. Although cases remain low, some pupils have ended up in hospital after using contaminated vapes.
Typical symptoms linked to Spice include:
- Vomiting
- Seizures
- Racing heart
- Paranoia
- Aggression
- Sudden behavioural changes
Teachers have reported pupils seeming fine in the morning, only to display alarming aggression or seizure-like episodes after lunch breaks, raising serious concerns.
Wiltshire Police Launch New Vape Testing Drive in Schools
Partnering with Bath University, Swindon Borough Council, and 1 Council, Wiltshire Police are testing vapes confiscated in schools to identify hotspots of contamination. PCSO Jon Akehurst, leading the programme, insists the focus is on safeguarding, not punishing students.
“We want to find out if any of these vapes have THC or Spice in them, which could help us form a hotspot map… This allows us to take appropriate actions, like involving Trading Standards or issuing warrants where necessary.”
Students found with contaminated vapes will be referred to youth support services such as 123, with devices safely stored for further testing.
Parents and Schools Urged to Stay Alert
Wiltshire Police urge parents and school staff to remain vigilant and report any suspicious vape activities immediately.
