21-Year-Old Held After Explosive Alert Sparks Major Evacuation in South Bristol
A 21-year-old man is in police custody following a huge emergency response in South Bristol last night. Concerns over possible explosive materials found at a home on South Liberty Lane sparked a major incident and forced the evacuation of over 60 properties.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team Called In
Avon and Somerset Police were alerted at 5:55pm on Tuesday 22 July. The scene quickly escalated as specialist officers declared a major incident. By 7:50pm, the bomb disposal experts from the 123 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team arrived to secure the site.
A 100-metre safety cordon was set up around the property as officers worked to ensure the area was safe. Residents remained evacuated until around 3am on 23 July, when they were allowed to return home.
Ongoing Investigation and Arrest
The 21-year-old male suspect was arrested at the scene and remains in custody. Police are continuing their investigation, gathering evidence to determine the full circumstances behind the incident.
