Emergency services were scrambled to Bromley Road this afternoon after a fire broke out in the kitchen of a Chinese Noodle Express spreading rapidly to the first floor and prompting a major response from the London Fire Brigade.

The blaze is believed to have started shortly before 5pm on Sunday, with eyewitnesses reporting thick black smoke billowing from the building as flames tore through the rear kitchen area. Firefighters were quickly on scene, with four fire engines and multiple response  Police units deployed to contain the developing incident.

Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the premises to tackle the flames, which had already begun to spread to the upper levels of the property.

Metropolitan Police officers assisted at the scene, closing Bromley Road in both directions to allow emergency crews to work safely. Traffic remains heavily congested in the area, and motorists are being advised to seek alternative routes.

Crews used  Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV)  to help remove smoke from the lower ground floor of the building.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade at the scene  said:

“Crews responded rapidly to a fire at a commercial property on Bromley Road. The fire began in the a commercial  kitchen and is now under investigation.

Firefighters remain on scene working to bring the fire under control.”

The London Ambulance Service has also been requested to the scene, though no confirmation has yet been given on whether anyone has been treated or transported to hospital.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and a full investigation is expected to begin once the blaze is extinguished.

This is a developing story. More updates to follow.
