Police Hunt Man After Shocking Sexual Assault in Portsmouth Alley

Officers are urgently appealing for witnesses following a sexual assault in Portsmouth on Sunday evening, November 20.

Attack in Alleyway Interrupted by Brave Bystander

At around 5.45pm, a 19-year-old woman was walking along the alley linking Wellington Street and Aldwell Street towards Somers Road when a man suddenly approached her. He inappropriately touched her over her clothes and tried to pull her down.

Luckily, a second woman saw the attack and intervened, causing the man to flee towards Guildhall Square. He may have fled into Aldwell Street, Lower Forbury Road, River Street, or Sedgley Close.

The victim was not physically harmed and is receiving support.

Police Description of Suspect

  • White male, aged 40s to 50s
  • Larger build, overweight
  • 5ft 8in tall
  • Short grey hair, slightly balding with grey stubble
  • Wore a grey hoody with the hood up
